Class Description
6-Week Course *** There will be NO CLASS the week of Thanksgiving (11/25 - 11/29) *** **Although there is no prerequisite to enter this class, if your dog is starting from scratch it may take a few times through this class to get an AKC CGC title. If you have done some training on your own or have taken a class somewhere else, we will help you build on these skills to qualify for an AKC CGC title.** Description: American Kennel Club developed the Canine Good Citizen Program as the gold standard of training for every dog in America, regardless of age or breed. CGC will provide you with the foundation you need to be a responsible dog owner, and it will show you how to teach your dog the skills he/she needs to be a well-mannered pet. The AKC CGC Program is a noncompetitive program open to all dogs, purebreds and mixes alike. The heart of the CGC Program is the AKC CGC evaluation, which assesses the ability of a dog to be a well-behaved member of the community. The CGC award shows a commitment to responsible dog ownership, and passing the ten-item CGC evaluation. After passing the evaluation, you can complete the paperwork to have your dog receive his/her AKC CGC Title. You’ll also receive a certificate from AKC, monthly email newsletter and your dog’s beautiful blue AKC CGC Ribbon. **If you would like to be tested for AKC CGC please let your instructor know prior to the week before class ends** Criteria for Graduation: Accepting a friendly stranger Sitting politely for petting Appearance and grooming Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead) Walking through a crowd Sit and down on command / staying in place Comes when called Reactions to another dog Reaction to distractions Supervised separation
